The report on “India’s COVID – 19 Vaccination Administration Journey” was published on February 23, 2022 by the Institute for Competitiveness with the collaboration of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India (GoI).

The report on “India’s COVID – 19 Vaccination Administration Journey” highlights the crucial aspect influencing the success of India’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution project that included the creation and subsequent implementation of procedures and processes responsible for the safe administration of vaccinations. The document highlights significant challenges faced by the Indian government, like delivering and administering vaccines to over 1.3 billion people of India, ensuring free and equitable distribution, and the prevalence of vaccine eagerness coupled with pockets of vaccine hesitancy. The immense size and heterogeneity further complicated the vaccine delivery in the whole country. The government chose to carry out the vaccination programme in stages, with recipients sorted into priority sectors for hassle-free immunisation.
